Discover our range of tours featuring fantastic visits to Highclere Castle, home to Downton Abbey, providing the perfect opportunity for fans to walk in the footsteps of their favorite characters and to gain a behind-the-scenes insight into this world-famous phenomenon.
Highclere Castle needs little introduction, known to so many as Downton Abbey from the hugely successful TV series and film. Home to the Carnarvon family since 1679, the castle epitomises the glamour of the Victorian and Edwardian periods and has plenty to offer visitors.
The impressive Drawing and Dining Rooms form the backdrop to the dryly withering put-downs delivered by Maggie Smith, as the Dowager Countess to some poor unfortunate relation. The Egyptian Exhibition in the cellars of the castle explores the achievements of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. Outside, the distinctive gardens and spectacular parkland designed by ‘Capability’ Brown are a delight to explore, and the castle also has a gift shop, gin bar and tea room.
